Featured are a large selection of carefully sorted children’s books, books on handcrafts and home repairs as well as fiction, nonfiction, travel and many other subjects.

Books, CDs, DVDs, tapes and current magazines are selected for subject and quality. The sale is held in the library basement and parking lot at the rear of the library building.

Friends of the Library sales are used to raise funds to purchase new library materials and to benefit activities of the library, particularly children’s programs.

El Cerrito Library’s Fall book sale has become “Books ‘n Brunch.” Come for great book bargains and enjoy the festive community atmosphere. Enjoy coffee, tea, bagels and pastries on Saturday morning only. Live acoustic music and a children’s storytelling area also offered.

A bag sale of remaining books will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

How long have you been involved with the Friends of the El Cerrito Library? Probably since about 2005. A friend asked if I wanted to get involved, and at the time I was busy painting and teaching and being in galleries and keeping all of that going. I spent my career as a painter and I led travel workshops. I got to travel to Europe a bunch of times to do that. I always keep a diary, so this is one from a trip to Portugal and Spain. On Thursday evening, May 19, Friends of the El Cerrito Library are pleased to present a program featuring John McMurtrie, Book Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Is the Book Dead? In this era of declining readership of news in print and the migration from traditional books to electronic readers, Mr McMurtrie’s comments will be particularly timely.

The event will be held at El Cerrito Library, 6510 Stockton Ave. (map) and begins with refreshments at 7 pm.

The program, followed by questions from the audience, starts at 7:30.

There is no charge and the public is welcome.

The next book sale

We are now looking forward to the Annual Book Sale on September 24-25, to be followed by a one day “Bag Sale” of remaining books on Saturday, October 1.

Come and take a behind the scenes look at how donated books are handled and sales organized – meet other Friends and supporters of your library – and take home that special book you’ve wanted to own.

From earthquakes to war, tourism to development, and pollution to a changing climate, the world’s most treasured places are increasingly under threat. The evening’s event will provide a glimpse into the United Nations’ World Heritage program and what is being done to preserve some of the most fascinating sites on our planet.

Guests are welcome. El Cerrito Library is located at 6510 Stockton Avenue.

Friends of El Cerrito Library will host a special sale of recently donated books, “For Members Only” in the basement of the library, available through the rear parking lot of the Library at 6510 Stockton Avenue, on June 17 from 6 to 8 pm. The group welcomes new members. See information about how to become a member or come to the library during regular hours. Membership forms will also be available at the event.

Friends of El Cerrito Library supports activities of the library, help provide the library with materials no longer available through the regular budget and provide other programs, particularly those for children and teens.
